Work as a Minicab Driver

The occupation of a minicab driver offers the greatest flexibility in deciding when you want to work and how long you want to work for.

The journeys are mostly short and your operator will call you with the details of the jobs. The benefits of this job are that you will meet a lot of new people, go to lots of new places and never be stuck in an office. London is an extremely busy hub, with very high demand for minicabs, coming from business people, tourist and clients of all sorts will keep you working day and night. We expect the demand for PHV/minicab drivers to continue on an upward trend well into the future.

Work as a Chauffeur Driver

Being a chauffeur has the same licence requirements as a minicab driver but the job description is very different:

•    Bookings made in advance – A good chauffeur will be booked weeks in advance due to the busy lifestyle of his clients, generally all from the corporate world. These clients expect very high standards of service with respect to time keeping, presentation and attitude.

•    Timekeeping is a priority. Excellent time keeping skills are essential.

•    Dress Code – A chauffeur should always be dressed smartly and wear a suit, shirt and tie.

•    Newer Vehicle –It must be a fairly new model and also be a high-­‐end make e.g. Mercedes S Class, Maybach, BMW, Jaguar etc. It is also essential that the car is kept clean both inside and out.

•    Route Knowledge is essential as your clients are using your services for time-­‐sensitive appointments such as business meetings, going to the airport etc. They work on very tight

deadlines and cannot afford to be late.

Work in Airport Transfers

Working for an airport transfer company is another good job for someone with a PCO licence. This job involves driving excessive mileage and you will need a vehicle with plenty of boot space. On the upside, due to the time/distance you will mostly have a well-paid fare and tourists will often give you a tip for a good service. Once again, these fares are all pre-­booked and in some cases booked in advance.
